THE RIVER MAGAZINE | Autumn 2017 17 | P R O P E R T Y | W ith the end of summer in sight, some of us will be returning from long breaks to sit back at desks for extended periods. Here are a few tips to help make life a little easier... * Take work breaks; get away from your desk - go for a walk and stretch those legs! If that’s not so easy, grab a glass of water or just stand up to avoid hours of prolonged sitting. * Where possible make sure you’re working with the best equipment. Your desk should be set up to avoid any unwanted injuries like repetitive strain injuries or back pain. NHS Occupational Health teams can work with company staff to provide an ergonomic assessment that will help position your chair and desk correctly and even provide a new chair or even a sit-stand desk. If you’re self-employed then your local osteopath will be able to advise you. Visit our recent blog to find out how a workstation assessment can help you (www. bodytonicclinic. co.uk/work-station- assessment). * When was the last time you had your eyes checked? Most of us work with computers and staring at a computer screen is not great for the eyes. Poor eyesight or incorrect prescriptions of contact lenses and glasses can lead to changes in your posture causing musculo-skeletal injuries such as neck and back pain.
